Employed solution-NMR and enzymological assays to characterize the biophysical properties of allergens, with a specific emphasis on lipid-protein interactions and intrinsically-disordered proteins. Identified novel antiviral compounds as part of the NIH strategic response to COVID-19.

Carried out a 4 month work term in the research lab of Dr. Stephen Brown (joint with Endetec, a branch of Veolia Water Solutions Ltd) where I was responsible for characterizing the expression of glucuronidase by e-coli strains, with the ultimate goal of developing improved methods for the enzymatic detection of e-coli in drinking water. Skills of note: Independent research and laboratory techniques, including the design and development of various microbiological and fluorometric enzyme activity assays

Worked with a biochemistry PhD student to determine the catalytic mechanism of the myosin heavy chain kinase A active site domain through various physical biochemistry techniques (phosphate binding assay, autophosphorylation assays, fluorescence studies etc). Worked as a research assistant in the research lab of Peter Davies (Biochemistry), where I was responsible for purifying various strains of the protease Calpain using a recombination e-coli system. Also responsible for devising methods to study the autolytic degradation of calpain over time in an attempt to decipher its catalytic mechanism.Skills of Note: Enzyme expression/purification. FPLC chromatography, basic biochemistry laboratory techniques (gel electrophoresis, autoclave/centrifuge operation etc), independent research.

Conducted research project to determine the mechanism through which solid-phase palladium catalysts facilitate organic coupling reactions. Project focused on affixing palladium nuclei onto a solid silicon substrate, and observing the change in oxidation state of the palladium nuclei at various points during the reaction.Skills exercised: basic chemistry laboratory skills, X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, independent research skills
