After training, teaching, and researching in areas related to Sports Science for more than a decade, I have been lucky enough to join the team at NIS Labs as a Project Manager and Scientist. Our group focuses on innovative, yet practical approaches to Natural Products Research. We offer customized protocols that include specific assessment of immunomodulatory properties of natural products as well as an array of standardized tests, including antioxidant capacity and anti-inflammatory effects. We work with you from the initial concept development through protocol design, lab research, clinical studies, and writing.

i) Working with a team of researchers to conduct hydration and nutritional assessment of hockey players to provide feedback for the team staff and players. These experiences have involved players ranging from youth to professional.- Hockey Canada, #GCamp- IIHF Canadian World Junior Hockey Summer Showcase- Canadian Women’s National Training Camp- USports (Men + Women)- American Hockey League (Rochester Americans, Utica Comets, Toronto Marlies)- National Hockey League (Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Redwings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Vegas Golden Knights, New Jersey Devils, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs)ii) Working one-on-one with elite cyclists, marathon athletes, triathletes, and ultramarathon athletes to conduct hydration and nutritional assessment during simulated race conditions to provide detailed advice for ideal nutrition and hydration to optimize performance.

There are many nutritional ingredients of interest by producers that may provide health benefits to consumers. However, many health claims associated with nutritional ingredients have yet to be supported by scientific research. By working with other researchers, we are able to search the most current literature to determine whether peer-reviewed research supports health benefits that have been claimed to be associated with ingredients in traditional medicine and media. This allows product developers to understand what ingredients are beneficial for use in their products.

Provided curriculum development to the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies at Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning for the purpose of developing a complete course record template (course description, critical performance statement, course evaluation plan topical outline) for a Human Physiology 2 course that will be part of the new Osteopathy degree that will be introduced at the college.

Investigating the performance enhancing effects of altering blood flow patterns through blood flow restriction.

Responsible for facilitating lab sessions and interacting with undergraduate university students, calibrating and understanding equipment used for exercise testing, and marking lab reports. This position required considerable knowledge and teamwork with other graduate teaching assistants to give undergraduate students a positive experience in the first-year Introductory Biology and the exercise physiology portion of the Applied Human Kinetics course at the University of Guelph.

Working with coaches and players of the 2019-2020 University of Guelph Men’s and Women’s Varsity Ice Hockey teams to implement a comprehensive athlete monitoring program that encompasses on- and off-ice measures to quantify and monitor internal and external player load with the goal of optimizing their health and performance. Most recently, tasks have primarily included data analysis and manuscript production.

Instructor for two fourth-year undergraduate courses within the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Guelph-Humber:1) KIN*4070, Sports Nutrition: Responsible for instructing weekly lectures, student interactions, marking and other teaching activities for a sports nutrition course that investigated the critical role that nutrition plays in optimizing human athletic performance.2) KIN*4400, Independent Research Study in Kinesiology: Supervising senior undergraduate students that selected an independent study option where students pursued library or field research by preparing a research report or literature review through independent reading, research, and writing under the supervision of a faculty instructor.

Major research topics surrounding the hydration and proper nutrition for athletes to provide optimal performance during training and competitive sporting events. These experiences have involved subject interactions, ethical research practices, working with equipment and procedures in both exercise labs and field research, and data collection for several different experiments.

Organizing exercise physiology seminars, and conducting exercise tests for visiting high school students. Also involved in some scheduling of high school visits.

Responsible for facilitating lab sessions and interacting with undergraduate university students, calibrating and understanding equipment used for simulated clinical testing, and marking lab reports. This position required considerable knowledge and teamwork with professors and other graduate teaching assistants to give undergraduate students a positive experience in the Fitness and Lifestyle Assessment for Clinical Populations course at the University of Guelph-Humber.

Responsible for operation of front desk, client interactions, membership renewals, maintenance of fitness facility, and assisting members with proper strength and conditioning techniques.
