Actively participated in the Belsen 75 project delivered by the Holocaust Educational Trust and UCL Centre for Holocaust Education. Part of this project granted me with an opportunity to participate in a commemorative visit to the Bergen-Belsen memorial site in Lower Saxony, Germany. The visit was hugely insightful, with the benefit of physical presence enabling oneself to form a greater understanding behind the tragedy of the Holocaust, and more importantly the need to preserve the memory to the victims. Following the Belsen 75 Project, myself and two other students that had joined me on this journey were given the opportunity to voice the importance of remembrance and Holocaust education to the rest of the college (The College of Richard Collyer). While we had prepared for a physical presentation, due to the challenges of COVID the presentation was subsequently delivered virtually.The Belsen 75 Project taught me the importance of Holocaust Education through means of baring emotional witness, experiencing first-hand survivor testimonies and engaging in a meaningful trip to the site itself.
