About Alexander Oh
PhD student at Columbia University’s Electrical Engineering department studying photonic devices, circuits and systems with Prof. Keren Bergman.Even at a young age, I always surrounded myself with technology, inherently asking myself, "How does this computer work?" or "How does this touchscreen work?" One mystery seemed to unfold into even more mysteries as I delved deeper and deeper as years passed. For my undergraduate, I obtained a double degree in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science to understand the full picture of electronics all the way from the very basic fundamental structure of electronics to the practical applications and applicability of Computer Science. With this complete picture of how electronics and computers function, I am now delving further into researching photonics based approaches to modern data transmission and computation. Light based approaches to numerous electronics have begun emerging and are truly fascinating in application.Software:Programming Languages - C/C++, Java, Python, JavaScriptElectrical Design: LTSpice, Multisim, Lumerical3D Design: Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, Solidworks, Ultimaker CuraMathematical Analysis: Mathematica

Co President
Serving as one of two Co-Presidents for VandyHacks. Oversees operations of organization activities including an annual hackathon for over 500 students across the country. Provides vision and direction for each subcommittee in pursuit of developing and growing the Engineering and Computer Science community at Vanderbilt.
Undergraduate Researcher Scholar
Selected as a summer researcher the STROBE SURS Program at the University of California, Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab under Prof. Roger Falcone and Thomas Feggeler with the X-Ray Microscopy. Conducting experimental and computational research in condensed matter physics, specifically in micromagnetics. Used Scanning and Transmission X-Ray microscopy (STXM) at the Advanced Light Source at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab to observe magnetic domains in materials including FeGd. Seeked skyrmion formation in various materials, which may have large implications in future logic devices.Conducted computation simulations to compare and contrast results between real world experiments and theoretical values.Designed a poster to present research findings, and potentially a research paper for formal publication of findings.
Intern
Tested various units of oscillators through writing automated Python scripts to communicate with a Signal Source Analyzer and Temperature Chamber. Analyzed results in Python to determine whether each unit was faulty or functional. Increased the efficiency of testing through automated control rather than manual control. Led a project in building the foundations of a new Python database to store collected data in an organized fashion. Designed a sustainable top-down object-oriented structure for how data can be stored, altered, and fetched. Created a structure that would allow for minimal changes to the source code in case of new additions or changes.
Clubscikidz Md 3D Printing Instructor
Instructed a summer camp, teaching 3D printing to students from ages 11 through 15. Demonstrated and taught proper CAD usage and various software including Ultimaker Cura. Explained the function and innerworkings of a 3D printer.
University Of Maryland Biomechanics Intern
Assisted lab research in University of Maryland’s Biomechanics laboratory. Collected data and learned proper usage of lab equipment including EKG, EEG, and force plates. Learned about the effects of various environmental influences on muscle contraction.
