I am recent graduate of the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a passion for issues pertaining to sustainability: environmental stewardship, social equity and fiscal responsibility.I am seeking an entry-mid level procurement, supply chain, or related position where I can contribute to the success of the organization through the promotion and implementation of sustainable initiatives.Currently, I am a Buyer & Special Accounts Rep. with East View Map Link & Longitude Books, which is one of the largest distributors of wholesale maps and atlases in the US. My primary responsibilities include: handling special accounts, vendor relations, procurement, inventory management, data integrity, and overseeing logistics. In 2013, I spent a year in China teaching English as a second language to students of all ages and skill levels at a private training school in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province. I gained great insight into the cultural diversity of the region, developed an understanding of the passion that the Chinese have for learning English to improve their professional opportunities, and acquired some Mandarin language skills. While in university, I held an internship with the Mayor's Office in the City of St. Paul, MN, where I assisted in developing an environmentally preferable purchasing policy. The process included: researching the policies of other pioneering cities, drafting a new policy to meet the city's current and future needs and collaborating with Mayor Chris Coleman's Sustainable St. Paul team to address policy concerns and logistical issues. Below is an article that I co-wrote with Sarah Bagley on the psychological barriers to sustainability and how to effectively develop a more sustainable lifestyle by understanding your aversion to change.
