During my REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) internship, I conducted on-site geodetic research in Northern Costa Rica from January 2, 2023, to January 15, 2023. My responsibilities included the installation of GNSS stations and the collection of geologic data to support our research objectives. Additionally, I utilized MATLAB to analyze InSAR data, evaluating the displacement of the Santa Elena Peninsula. This experience enhanced my skills in fieldwork, data collection, and geospatial analysis.

As a Research Assistant, I gained hands-on experience in various aspects of scientific research. Under the guidance of a Senior Research Scientist, I specialized in Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Electron Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) data analysis using the AZtec software. I provided training to graduate and post-doctoral students in SEM operation and sample preparation techniques, including the use of sputter coater machines. Additionally, I oversaw maintenance tasks for three SEM instruments, ensuring their smooth operation and reliability.

During my REU internship, I collaborated closely with graduate students to investigate ferroelectric material properties. My role involved image processing techniques to analyze scanning and transmission electron microscope (SEM and TEM) images using MATLAB. Additionally, I had the opportunity to present our research findings at the National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI) research convocation. This experience provided valuable insights into materials science research methodologies and enhanced my presentation skills.
