I led a group of eight transportation professionals including transportation planners, public outreach and communications specialists, and transportation equity professionals to accomplish the key functions of the Boston Region MPO.

Manage programming and outreach/communications for the Boston Region’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP); interface with TIP contacts throughout the 97-municipality region; plan and lead the presentation of complex materials to the MPO Board and at public events to communicate the TIP development process and regional priorities for transportation improvement; and, annually lead a project evaluation process to allocate approximately $100 million in regionally-prioritized federal aid to capital improvement projects throughout the Boston region.

Led development and public outreach for the planning and programming of the technical work to be conducted by the Boston Region MPO staff every federal fiscal year. Coordinated among federal and state agencies, local elected officials, planners, advocates, and residents to understand transportation priorities throughout the Boston region. Interfaced with the MPO board and UPWP sub-committee by making regular presentations at their meetings.

Principal planner on numerous transportation and urban planning projects. Manage the work of other team members; prepare contracts, budgets, work plans, and schedules; design GIS-based maps for transportation and urban planning reports. Recognized as the most promising junior planner at CDM Smith for exceptional work in analyzing technical reports and policy papers, dedication to quality, and consummate professionalism. Highlights of accomplishments and key project work includes:• For the Connecticut Department of Transportation, designed and developed public education and outreach materials about the environmental, economic, and social impacts of traffic congestion and solutions to congested roadways ranging from electronic tolling/congestion charging to investments in multi-modal transportation. Analyzed transportation and U.S. Census data for development of the Statewide Strategic Transportation Plan.• For Buncombe County, NC, researched and developed methodology for the county to analyze the economic impact of existing and proposed greenways throughout the county.• For the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, analyzed real estate and recreational impacts of a proposal to remove four dams from the Klamath River in northern California and southern Oregon. Helped develop major parts of a policy overview report for review by the Secretary of the Interior. • For 18 specific neighborhoods in Galveston, TX, in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, led public meetings to help residents identify and define their priorities and goals for future development in their neighborhoods; developed and refined neighborhood plans based on resident input.• For the Florida Department of Transportation, developed a score card for elderly citizens to assess the walkability of their community. Developed fact sheet on the economic impacts of unmet mobility needs among the elderly.

Researched policies on Smart Growth and urban water management/conservation. Assisted in grant writing for developing sustainable technologies in waste water disposal.

Developed organizational index of Department of Revenue decisions issued to Community Preservation Act communities. Analyzed CPA database for housing trends, and wrote white paper explaining these trends. Wrote article for the Coalition’s January 2008 newsletter explaining how MA cities and towns are using the CPA to preserve water resources.

Worked to determine the main issues in Santa Fe around river restoration and municipal water management. Compiled case studies and networked with local government representatives and environmental organizations in surrounding western states to learn about instream flow policies and local river restoration projects.

Assisted with research for affordable green housing marketing project and paper, prepared green affordable housing marketing spreadsheet. Performed administrative office duties, answering phones and directing calls, sorting/delivering mail, faxing, organizing office, and general office maintenance.

Developed and completed independent research experiments studying diabetes, analyzed data and initiated subsequent course of research. Presented results to senior researchers and graduate students. Collaborated with fellow research technicians and senior scientists to develop experimental protocol.
