Telecommunications TechnicianBrasil Telecom Aug 2001 - Nov 2003Porto Alegre, BrazilState owned telecom company in the south of Brazil, the equivalent to BT in the UK. I was responsible for installation and maintenance ADSL circuits, where we wired Cisco and Alcatel DLAMS at the Exchange to the customer copper line and then went to the client premises to install the ADSL equipment. The work back in the day was all inclusive, so we would set up the ADSL router and assist with the local network set up as well. I troubleshoot ADSL problems and worked closely with the telecoms network department to sort out routing and latency issues between exchanges and access to the internet backbone.Eventually I stepped up the ladder and started to work more closely with the network department learning Frame Relay and assisting with the troubleshooting of the ring networks that were implemented among the exchanges and backbones. The troubleshooting led us to find specific problems with Alcatel DSLAMs that were affecting several other cities in the south as it was due to the impedance of the wiring used and the moisture infiltrated into the basement of the exchanges. As the problem with the exchange was going to be a long term project, replacing the existing Alcatel DLAMs with more resilient Cisco model proved to be a quick resolution of the problem until the company had a proper plan to manage the problems with the exchanges.
