I started at AAT as a Principal Patent Attorney working as part of the Mechanical Group and was promoted in July 2016 to the position of Associate Patent Attorney.My work covers a wide variety of technology areas including oil exploration, food packaging and medical devices. I advise Clients in relation to patents and designs and contentious and non contentious matters.I particularly enjoy advising inventors, start-ups and SMEs to help build an IP strategy and portfolio that supports their business plan.

After joining Novartis I was responsible for the majority of the medical device IP portfolio for Novartis Pharmaceuticals. I was mainly employed in the respiratory area looking after inhalers and the like, but also dealt with injection devices, packaging and production equipment. In addition to primarily mechanical IP I was responsible for some aspects of formulation and dosage form development.In 2012 I took on the responsibility for providing IP support for the tobramycin franchise which involved IP portfolio management and providing advice to the commercial team regarding the protection that portfolio might provide.I was involved with the IP due diligence for several deals and have been created a medical devices IP strategy for the division.

After university I started as a Technical Assistant to the partners. I obtained the Certificate in IP from Queen Mary and Westfield College and subsequently passed the UK Finals Papers (P2, P3, P4 and P6) and European Qualifying Exams to become a Chartered UK Patent Agent and European Patent Attorney. After qualification I was made an Associate Patent Agent.The majority of my practice was mechanical patent work, with some basic electronics and chemistry. Much of the work was preparation and prosecution of patent applications before the UK Intellectual Property Office and European Patent Office. I also advised on Trade Marks (passing two of the three UK Trade Mark finals papers), design and copyright issues.
