Predicted tyrosine sulfation in multiple membrane proteins to find links to mutagenesis and dysfunctional proteins.Discovered three high-probability sulfated tyrosines near important binding sites in voltage-gated sodium channels related to altered protein functions that lead to epilepsies, encephalopathies, Dravet syndrome, and other neurological diseases.Utilized position-specific scoring matrices, a large sulfated and unsulfated tyrosine database, multiple (amino acid) sequence comparison by log expectation, and PyMOL (a molecular visualization system) to locate and analyze the tyrosine sites.
