Growing up in Portugal during the 2010s meant being bombarded by the Euro Crisis, Troika and its consequences. Seeing the country fall to bad debt, my family get laid off and our subsequent immigration birthed my interest in economics and finance and how one can use financial tools to benefit themselves and their country. Aware of my linguistic and cultural disadvantage, I learned to seize every opportunity from early on, here in the UK. Be that after-school clubs/language assistance, all the way to office hours and talks by BlackRock or BoE professionals at university.My academic and personal experience has highlighted two clear fascinations of mine:1. Finding storylines and developing insights from complex data that would otherwise be invisible (harnessed in my Data Science project)2. Applying my creativity to the theory, to create innovative solutions for real-world problems (praised in my ideas to combat climate change or gender issues)Managing priorities has always been important to me. I have prided myself on my ability to work towards the best grades while maintaining a healthy social life, something my friends would often question, as even in my first year I would put in 5-6 hours of studying every day, knowing that I didn't have the same economics background as most others in the course did. Currently, my priorities are:- Completing personal projects to enhance and upkeep skills learnt during my academia- Planning an intercontinental trip for 2024 (if you have an underrated must-visit destination, please reach out!)More personally, I am an FC Porto fan which leaves me with a regularly low-scoring FPL team but does not stop me from claiming I will bring it back every game week! I love to engage in conversation with people back home, comparing government action and day-to-day life.
