L'SPACE is a NASA work force development and unpaid learning experience facilitated by staff at Arizona State University. Students are given the opportunity to learn from industry professionals from different backgrounds within NASA. Simultaneously, the students are broken up into teams to complete planning for an exploration mission from pre-phase A through phase F. The teams complete and receive professional feedback on the following deliverables: MCR, SRR, MDR, PDR and a PDR presentation. Students are taught that science drives design, and the interdisciplinary teams come up with questions that their exploration system seeks to answer. The Lead Systems Engineer is responsible for the overall design of the exploration system, leading a multidisciplinary team of engineers. Responsible for developing and tracking mission requirements, allocations of resources to subsystems, object process model (OPM), OPORD, N^2 chart, block diagrams, and the overall function of the engineering team.
