My works aims to characterize the post-transcriptional mechanisms of NMDA receptor subunit genes as means of modulating protein synthesis at the synapse to drive neuronal development and function. Using our novel mouse model, I use transcriptomic and proteomic analysis combined with fluorescent microscopy to assess transcript transport and protein synthesis. This research aims to better understand the molecular basis of learning and memory and identify possible therapeutic targets for neurological disease.

In the Laboratory for Brain Injury and Dementia, I conducted research aimed at understanding the molecular changes in the brain that occur after traumatic brain injury (TBI). I handled administrative duties, such as supply purchasing, credit card consolidation, animal maintenance, as well as research responsibilities, such as animal behavioral assays, Western Blotting, RT-PCR, transcriptomics, immunohistochemistry, surgery, data collection, and supervision of bachelors and masters student projects.

My project investigates the peripheral acute phase response after traumatic brain injury in mice with a focus on serum amyloid A1 (SAA1), a known pro-inflammatory factor. We assess the efficacy of a novel anti-sense SAA1 oligonucleotide on the deficits seen in this TBI model and conduct analysis through the use of flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and western blot.

In addition to my responsibilities as a medical scribe and scribe trainer, I led a 25-member scribe team with aims to optimize client satisfaction through optimal chart quality and scribe efficiency. I coordinated between Suburban Hospital Emergency Department physicians, ER scribes, and ScribeAmerica Management, as well as managed 120 monthly patient chart reviews, 40 monthly scribe assessments, monthly scheduling, new-hire onboarding, and monthly continuing scribe education meetings.

In additional to my medical scribe responsibilities, I performed in-classroom and live ER training for new-hire scribes, ensuring that they fulfilled the standard benchmarks outlined by ScribeAmerica, as well as upheld HIPAA and ICD-10 guidelines. I also assisted in conducting monthly total of 120 patient chart reviews and 40 scribe assessments.

In this role I worked with physicians to document their patient encounters using EPIC electronic medical record software. This included patient history, symptom review, physical exam findings, labs/imaging studies ordered, patient re-evaluations, specialist consultations, clinical impressions, and disposition. Due the fast-paced nature of the emergency department, this role required extensive knowledge of hospital workflow and navigation of electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

I assisted in HLA typing of patient whole blood samples and flow cytometry analysis of patient PMBCs to better understand T-cell biology in hepatitis C/HIV co-infections. I also joined weekly journal clubs and attended lectures focused on immunology, Hepatitis B/C, and HIV research.

As a chef's assistant, I assisted in meal preparation prior to dinner service. I also was responsible for kitchen cleanliness, preparation of salads and desserts, and assisting chefs with any other responsibilities during food service. for stations.

I was responsible for planning day-to-day activities for the campers, overseeing the counselors in my group, and running the rocketry and crime scene investigation camper activity workshops.
