Clinical Fieldwork - Level Iib
I provided outpatient occupational therapy services to individuals across the life span, ages 5 to 65+. I had the privilege to work with individuals with a wide array of diagnoses. I evaluated and treated individuals with orthopedic conditions (shoulder replacements/impingement/RTC tear, elbow/wrist fractures, osteoarthritis, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel release), Neuro (CVA, TBI, MS), ASD, developmental conditions and muscular dystrophy. Exposed to casting and splinting. Performed and removed long arm and short arm casts.Presented in-services to OT staff at Frazier Rehab regarding CIMT, serial casting, manual therapy techniques and common orthotics for upper extremity conditions utilizing evidenced-based research and continuing education courses.
Clinical Fieldwork - Level Iia
Provided outpatient occupational therapy services to individuals, ages 4-21, with a variety of diagnoses (primarily autistic individuals) fading from direct to indirect supervision. I provided client-centered interventions through play and incorporating their unique interests to promote skill building and to target client goals. I deepened my understanding in regard to sensory processing and sensory modulation and integrated client specific sensory activities during sessions to promote occupational participation and performance. I also had a the privilege to provide treatment in a school environment one day a week for 5 weeks. Treatments focused on skills needed towards academic tasks, social-emotional regulation and addressing self-care skills. I planned and led a dozen hippotherapy sessions to promote sensory processing and modulation and/or to target strengthening, postural stability, bi-lateral coordination to enhance therapeutic and functional outcomes. I gained knowledge in regard to understanding matching an equine's gait and their anatomy to the client's specific needs and diagnosis to promote functional and therapeutic outcomes. For my project I produced videos modeling the performance of self-care activities for therapists at Green Hill Therapy to utilize during pediatric treatments and to provide to caregivers to promote carry over in the home environment. By the end of my rotation, I was treating 30 out of 32 clients independently and completing 95% of documentation of caseload utilizing Web PT software.
Mini Needs Assessment & Program Implementation Of Community Organization
With a team, we interviewed The Center of Head Injury Services to identify occupational needs impacting the targeted population within the organization's Adult Day Program. We developed a program design to be implemented by organization's staff of the Adult Day Program to address physical activity and social skills to promote health wellness, quality of life, occupational performance and participation. Over the course of 3 weeks my team and I implemented our program design and facilitated session activities.I individually led a physical activity session focused on seated yoga and bowling to ensure inclusion and maximum participation of all individuals. I modified the activity specifically to each individual based on their personal factors to promote occupational participation and performance and motivation while also addressing physical activity and movement.
Community Advocacy
With a team, analyzed the Crisis Nursery to assess the facility’s resources and community impact via staff interview. Improved the children’s playground area by adding enrichment structures, assembling toys, and facility beautification to help promote participation in play with peers. Individually designed a one-page informational handout to increase advocacy and awareness in regard to child abuse and neglect and providing information of services that the Crisis Nursery provides to families in the St. Louis area.
