About Alexis King

I received my BFA with high distinction in Interior Architecture at the California College of the Arts in 2000. Over the past several years, I have practiced both commercial and residential design for two very prominent, award-winning firms. My commercial design experience at Gensler in San Francisco included Neiman Marcus – Houston, TX, Design Within Reach – multiple locations, and Gap – prototype store design. After relocating to Los Gatos, I joined Barbara Jacobs Interior Design as a senior designer. I worked on several high-end comprehensive residential remodels, including a 6000 SF residence in Saratoga, a 4000 SF residence in Monte Sereno, and a 2200 SF residence in Los Gatos.Today, as principal of Alexis King Interiors and certified in the state of California, I am committed to the same design and work ethic that has served my past clients so well. I remain focused on residential design and my creativity, attention to detail, and rigorous follow-through are critical to the success of my projects. I view each design endeavor as an opportunity for both myself and my client to realize a vision, together. Achieving sublime, yet thoughtful design is a product of both listening and guiding. There are no right answers, just incredibly studied solutions that render a home comfortable, harmonious, remarkable.

    Over the years, I have recognized that the genuine nature of designing with found, re-purposed and sustainable elements lends itself to the weaving of an aesthetic that harnesses old with new. These elements tell a story and offer not only a visual patina of time, but a glimpse into another narrative. They are disparate parts, but when paired with slick refined details they create a synergy that can often times surprise and delight. Finding the balance between aesthetic, comfort and functionality is fundamental to successful design. Creating that balance is truly a journey...and I ABSOLUTELY love it!

    Taught sophomore level course, Materiality & Space 2, in the Interior Design department at the California College of the Arts - San Francisco campus. Materiality & Space 2 (MS2) is part of a sequence that is taught in conjunction with both design studio and digital media courses. Part of my commitment included supporting my co-instructor with the revamping of the curriculum in an effort to honor specific elements of the CIDA accreditation process for Spring 2016. MS2 focused on color theory, materiality, and finish palettes as they relate to interior design. Students were given a series of exercises over a 15 week semester that culminated in a presentation of their design for a digital movie company workplace. Students also participated in an ongoing semester long project inspired by John Pawson's "A Visual Inventory," which produced a student specific visual inventory book of their own imagery taken over the course of the semester. As CCA is my Alma mater, this experience was especially fulfilling for me, as it was - in essence - my coming full circle...from student to adjunct professor. It was a fabulous semester and I am really honored and pleased with the outcome of this effort.
