Photojournalism InternPublicsource Jun 2023 - Aug 2023Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United StatesPublicSource is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, digital-first media organization dedicated to serving Pittsburgh and the region. As the photojournalism intern at the PublicSource, I collaborate with fellow reporters both at PublicSource and across the Pittsburgh area to create impactful images for their stories. I also participate in newsroom meetings where we problem solve and talk through experiences reporting, learn how to uses resources such as the Right To Know Act, and discuss upcoming visuals for stories. -
Communications And Marketing InternThe Pittsburgh Foundation Jan 2023 - Jul 2023Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United StatesAt The Pittsburgh Foundation, I learned how to use my traditional journalistic education alongside nonprofit communication skills to provide a unique perspective on projects both at the Foundation and in my own work. While there, I added detailed tags to over 200 images in the MediaValet photo database to allow for images to be located easily when needed. I worked on a committee with fellow co-workers at The Pittsburgh Foundation to review scholarship applications for the Western Pennsylvania Scholarship Fund for Higher Education. To increase application numbers for various scholarships offered through The Pittsburgh Foundation, I composed and sent out emails to Pittsburgh universities and public schools in Pittsburgh informing them on the opportunities that the Pittsburgh Foundation has for students. To inform Microsoft employees of the impact the Microsoft ERG (Employee Resource Groups) scholarship has on students, I worked with a previous awardee to write a profile on how the scholarship has impacted them. With the community as their central focus, the Foundation raises and awards approximately $50M to $60M each year. To help with the #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert fundraiser, I drafted a Q&A article on the interview between Pittsburgh Foundation leaders and leaders from other organizations about the impact of this fundraising event. In 2022, the #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert raised $1.2M. This opportunity allowed me to work for one of the nation’s oldest community foundations, with $1.5 billion in charitable assets and more than 3,000 funds on behalf of individuals and organizations from across our region. -
