Alexis has won numerous awards recognizing her commitment leading city-building initiatives. She is the Founding Director of STEPS Public Art, an award-winning charity that sits at the intersection of culture, community engagement and city-building. STEPS has been responsible for some of Canada's largest and most community-engaged public art projects, including the World's Tallest Mural (2013) and Equilibrium Mural (2018). She has been integral in launching the organization's award-winning social enterprise - PATCH, a full-service public art agency that builds the capacity for artists to exhibit in the public realm. Awarded a DiverseCity Fellowship by CivicAction and the Maytree Foundation (2011), Alexis has sat on the National Program Committee for the the Culture Days Congress, the Adult Committee for the Skylark (formerly Delisle) Youth Gallery and the Advisory Board of the Toronto Arts Council's Neighbourhood Arts Network.Alexis received an MA from the University of Toronto's Department of Geography and Planning and has a particular interest in using art to challenge and change: the ways in which public spaces are currently being used; how people communicate on planning issues; and the role of the artist in city-building. She also holds certificates in Community-Based Research, Capacity Building and Teaching English as a Second Language.
