Growing up in a world that is marketed, shared, sold, and bought constantly, I always felt detached. There was seemingly no human aspect to any of the items I was being told I needed. It all felt cold and unfeeling. Brands always lacked something for me: connection. So I sought out ways to change that and became more involved in the companies behind my favorite brands. At first, it was simply following Twitter accounts. Then lots and lots of research. Joining fan communities. Even creating a few! And that is when I discovered community management. I swapped my degree from education to marketing and dove into a universe of something that genuinely surprised me. Marketing is all about people. The cold and detached feeling faded as I studied trends and ways that communities were built from nothing. Then I landed my first job in social media management. I can say with full honesty - I love my job. I love seeing fans get excited over a new launch, watching as influencers grow and find their communities, but most of all - it's creating compelling social media content that doesn't require a deep dive to feel the "connection". Within my first year in this position, I learned valuable skills like SEO, metric analysis, and collaboration. We grew our social media presence from almost nonexistent to over 60,000+ followers and launched more community events than I can count.Through these experiences, I discovered a sneaky bit of ambition that craves sharing the link between community and brand. Creating a lasting bond between a company and its users in a meaningful way has become a very real passion of mine and has me (admittedly) overzealous for what's to come.If you're interested in learning more about my professional journey, connect with me on LinkedIn!
