Numerous summer seasons until I became a long-term teacher. Breaks to work in Israel, Slovakia & ACET Jersey.Taught English to both teenagers and adults from around the world. Specialising in Germanic and Portuguese speakers.Established the Open Learning Centre which delivered basic IT training and the ECDL to members of the public and the Social Security department.

Following numerous trips and work experience in East Africa, I founded Supporting African Schools with the view of covering the teaching salaries of the staff at Nakulabye Junior School in Uganda. For nearly 5 years we raised vital funds through musical events for the school but more importantly we helped raise the profile of the school which culminated in much larger organisations providing long-term support. Nakulabye Junior School is no longer based out of a few ranshackled shacks in the heart of a slum but has a new building with greater security, kitchen area, toilet facilities and vocational classrooms.

Helped manage the Family Literacy Project, later re-named the Community Development Project at St Paul's Centre. This project provided non-native English speakers with the opportunities to access local facilities & health information. English language & literacy classes were run alongside childcare provision so that mums could attend who would otherwise be unable to improve their skills.

Slovakia

Taught English as a Foreign Language to teenagers and adults in a private FE College in Lucenec, Slovakia for one academic year.

Uganda

We carried out baseline wildlife surveys on two island in Lake Victoria for the Jane Goodall Society and in the Mbarara district for the Born Free Foundation.
