Alex is a practicing barrister in Hong Kong. He joined Erik Shum’s Chambers in 2022 upon completion of pupillage with Mr. Erik Shum, Ms. Queenie Ng, Mr. Lawrence Hui and Mr. Alfred Cheng.Prior to joining the Bar, Alex served as a senior inspector in the Customs and Excise Department (“C&ED”). Having worked at the C&ED for 10 years, Alex had the experience in handling various criminal cases, such as money laundering, cross-border drug trafficking, smuggling, illicit cigarettes, intellectual property rights infringement, Trade Descriptions Ordinance offences and forfeiture proceedings. Apart from criminal matters, Alex was also one of the few officers in charging of internal investigations and disciplinary proceedings.Since joining the Bar, Alex has been maintaining a strong criminal practice in a broad spectrum of cases, including fraud and dishonesty offences, bribery and corruption offences, drugs related offences, sexual offences, violence offences, triad related offences, smuggling offences, illicit cigarette offences, intellectual property rights infringement, Trade Descriptions Ordinance offences, immigration offences, road traffic offences, industrial summonses and forfeiture proceedings.On the civil side, Alex has the experience in handling cases involving areas such as commercial and contractual disputes, bankruptcy and companies’ winding up, land and property disputes, adverse possession, building management, trust, probate, matrimonial disputes, medical negligence, personal injuries, employees’ compensation claims, medical council inquiry, building appeal, administrative appeal for Mahjong/Tin Kau Licence and Firearms Licence, municipal services appeal for Liquor Licence.Alex is capable of providing written submissions and conducting hearings in both English and Chinese. He is developing a broad civil and criminal practice, and accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work.
