Dr. Alex Conn and Leo Laverdure are excited to announce the release of their book titled The Strategic Enterprise Architect’s Dilemma: Balancing Fitness for Today’s Purpose with Fitness for Tomorrow’s Disruptive Context. Drawing from over a decade of research and practical experience, they emphasize the importance of flexible and durable systems that can navigate long-term disruptive challenges while remaining viable in the short term. The book captures and expands upon their insights gained through the development, practice, and teaching of Solution and Enterprise Architecture at high-tech firms worldwide.With more than 40 years of experience in computer systems architecture and design, Alex serves as a Managing Partner of SBSA Partners. His expertise lies in bridging the gap between enterprise needs and computer-based technologies, particularly in methodologies that ensure the alignment of technology-based solutions with established practices. Driven by a hands-on approach, he has validated his ideas through agile and adaptive architecting while working on mobile device interfaces and information/navigation architectures at a telecommunications-oriented startup.Alex established a solution architecture methodology for a major telecommunications firm, incorporating best practices and insights from top practitioners. This was an and extension and adaptation of the methodology that he had played a central role in defining, organizing successful workshops and training symposia that often involved high-profile customers. He delivered courses worldwide, exploring the importance of recognizing and responding to threats posed by disruptive technologies, market shifts, and potential alterations to established value chain relationships by third-party partners. At multinational computer and telecommunications companies, Alex has provided clarity and guidance on architectural practices by creating models, white papers, and technical presentations on emerging technologies and practices. Throughout his career, he has addressed critical system qualities such as security, usability, business continuity, internationalization, and interoperability.Alex holds a Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley in computer engineering with research on representing requirements for large-scale reliable software systems. His received masters and bachelor degrees in engineering and computer graphics at Dartmouth College and Dartmouth’s Thayer School of Engineering. Alex is TOGAF® 9 Certified and also received the CISSP® certification.
