One of my primary responsibilities in this role has been to compile board books for our various joint venture boards as well as our corporate board of directors. This includes communication with various departmental leaders to gather their deliverables, as well as financial analysis where requested for performance to budget and scenario analysis on cash flows.Another large project I have led is creating the foundation for corporate planning for 2018. I compiled a planning guide for department leaders to think strategically: what are their department's needs in the short and long term, what resources will they need (financially and otherwise), and how does that align with the overall company's goals? In addition, I proposed a budget for the following year for each department based on growth assumptions and actual expenditures, setting the table for leaders to discuss and finalize budgets.My ad hoc work continues as well with a more strategy-oriented focus to solve relevant business problems as they arise, including business development workflows as we continue to enter new markets and operational, day-to-day improvements to explore.

- Constructed a dynamic, three-statement consolidated financial working Excel model for short-term cash visibility and forward-looking analysis, including scenario planning and sensitivity analysis- Detailed unit cost structure to assess breakeven threshold and quantify impacts of scaling up- Compiled business planning documents and presentations for prospective partners with Business Development arm, leveraging my financial model for market entry analysis ~My initial responsibility was a large scale project to model the firm's financials and provide income statements, cash flow statements, and balance sheets at a monthly level. Using this working model, I was tasked to build out multiple P&L statements and three-statement views for different audiences given a set of driving assumptions. From a planning perspective, this gave Tandem leaders the visibility on short/medium-term cash flows to make key decisions while drastically improving ease of use of our models. From a business development perspective, I was able to facilitate partner engagements by providing dynamic models with scenario planning capabilities and ad hoc requests from potential partners. This has given me plenty of exposure to strategic business development, allowing me to branch out from a purely financial role. I also contributed my time and effort in various ad hoc analyses. One example was examining our unit cost structure to understand our break-even point from a patient volume perspective. With driving assumptions that vary across markets, this helped in understanding the importance of ramping up to ameliorate high fixed market entry costs.

- Modeled Networking orders to support P&L revenue visibility at a product level for internal business partners- Maintained the unified reporting tool for the Finance organization with regards to monthly close and forecasting reporting- Generated monthly foreign exchange impact analysis down to the Gross Margin level- Supported the Finance Benchmark tool, which ties in data from multiple sources into a single platform of scorecards and visualizations of key Cost of Sales metrics~My role at HPE consisted of two primary responsibilities: regular maintenance of HPE Services-wide profit-and-loss reporting tool and ad hoc analytical requests leveraging that tool plus general knowledge of HPE financial reporting systems.The reporting tool was an OLAP cube designed to be user friendly. The overarching goal was to reduce organizational drag, by enabling the Finance org to fulfill analytical requests quickly instead of pulling numbers manually and maintaining huge offline databases. My role was a "mature app" finance developer position - test new features on a monthly release schedule, ensure that the reporting numbers reconciled with our official P&L numbers, and educate new users on the functionality of the tool.In addition to the core role above, I also was given various ad hoc requests depending on business needs. Examples include quarterly reports on early-stage, high growth segments of HPE servers and revenue modeling for Networking business units, as well as the Benchmark tool. All of these requests have pushed my technical Excel skills in terms of automation, best practices design, and exposure to Visual Basic. I am extremely comfortable with Excel as a tool as a result. I also have been pushed to develop my modeling skills, especially with my Networking project. This was a request to model revenues at a visibility we just didn't have on the P&L side, and thus we needed to project revenues based on historical contracts and governing assumptions.

Represented Wiess College in interactions with other colleges as well as campus-wide with University administrationResolved college-level crises throughout the year, such as facilitating changes in Wiess' Orientation Week leadership and overseeing event planning logisticsImplemented a structured budget request process that reduced bi-weekly government meeting times by 10 minutes ~ As college president, my role was bipartite: I worked with the university as a representative of student voices, and I worked within my own college with my peers to improve Wiess. Campus-wide, the presidents serve as both a sounding board and as advisory to the Dean of Undergraduates and other administrative faculty. In weekly meetings, we would tackle large-scale issues such as a comprehensive response to the Survey on Unwanted Sexual Experiences and explicit violations of Rice's alcohol policy that resulted in a dangerous campus environment. On the college level, my role was essentially "putting out fires." Events (especially those with alcohol) had to meet a logistical threshold for registration, security, etc., in order to be allowed, so I would work with fellow students responsible for those events. Whenever a large rule-change was sought, such as increasing the number of Orientation Week leaders, I would facilitate communications between the adult (faculty) leadership of the college and the student leaders. A whole host of problems come up for college presidents, and I would say my leadership skills were constantly tested in a variety of ways throughout the year.One of my values as a leader is efficiency, and I found that the past budget request process was tedious and inaccurate. The new process required people to enter information online on their request (amount, percent of budget, which budget), and all requests would be announced at the start of meetings to be approved or denied in quick fashion, rather than in a scattered and chaotic manner.

I was responsible for analyzing corporate debt contracts for specific covenants. For example, I would document whether there was a need for audits from external accounting firms, and whether it was restricted to a specific firm. I would submit these reports to my advisor, and we would have weekly status meetings.I recommended an improvement to the existing methodology by specifying certain events, like OSHA-related covenants or Environmental Law adherence. While reportable events were already a field to look for, there were some events that were not being documented but were common in many contracts.

Formulated and documented the process for calculating a support contract renewal rate based on contract database mapping versus imprecise sales metricsAnalyzed royalty payment forecasts to find average total $2M booking error among large third-party vendorsInterviewed portfolio managers to consolidate information on those large vendors for future vendor-level forecasting investigation~I was placed in the Worldwide Technology Services Support (TSS) Finance segment of HP. I had 2 primary projects for the FLDP internship. one focused on contract renewal rates and the other on forecasting royalty payments.For the renewal rate project, I, along with another FLDP intern, constructed and documented the process for calculating a renewal rate formula based on contract-to-contract renewal, and compared that to existing formulas that other HP business segments utilized. We conducted comparative analysis of all existing methods known, and submitted all information found in order to assist TS Finance in consolidating renewal rate calculations for future reporting functions.For the royalties project, I was responsible for understanding the process of forecasting TSS royalties, conducting historical analysis on how accurate forecasts have been to actual payments, and making recommendations for improvements based on data. The third objective of recommendations was reformulated with respect to time constraints, and shifted more towards gathering information on specific "big-ticket" vendors for the largest marginal impact on forecasting. At this hyper-specific vendor level, I was tasked with interviewing portfolio managers to compile information on each vendor's relationship with HP: what variables enter the royalty payment calculation, if there are any historical problems with certain vendors, and what to expect in the future. This information was used as a foundation for future exploration of improving forecasts.

I assisted or was the project coordinator for VCSA's summer programs, including the Tobacco and Obesity Prevention Summit (TOPS) and the 18th Vietnamese-American Youth Excellence Recognition Luncheon (VAYERL).For TOPS, I helped on a day-to-day basis at the VCSA center for logistical details.For the VAYERL, I was one of two co-chairs. This consisted of: finding volunteers to fulfill a variety of roles including public relations, emcees, and program planning; handling and maintaining a 500-person guest list and seating chart; and being the point of contact for a range of people from school employees to offices of elected officials.
