Alex U. Case’s high altitude view of audio production end-to-end – from creation to experience – is built on his decades of ground-up professional accomplishments spanning the full value chain of the industry.Case was first a musician who studied mechanical engineering. He got his geek on. His creative desires and technical curiosities then motivated a complementary experience, becoming an engineer who studied music. The two degrees led to full time record engineering, plus part time strategy consulting for small audio companies. Immersion in the daily challenges of helping artists create sound recordings began to shine a bright light on the consumption side of sound recordings: loudspeakers, room acoustics, and the perception of sound. Graduate studies in architectural acoustics and subsequent work as a consultant in acoustics connected the last of the dots. Case has integrated all of these experiences to guide his career as an educator and author in audio and acoustics. He has served the Audio Engineering Society as President, Board of Directors, Board of Governors, and multiple committees including Membership (past Chair), Education (past Chair), and others.Case is a widely published author, with over 100 articles appearing in multiple journals and industry trade publications. He has authored two titles for Focal Press. "Mix Smart — Pro Audio Tips for Your Multitrack Mix" details actionable strategies for finding success in one of audio's greatest challenges: multitrack mixing. "Sound FX -- Unlocking the Creative Potential of Recording Studio Effects" is the authoritative guide to audio signal processing in multitrack production. Case is also a contributor to the Grove Dictionary of American Music, 2nd Edition, Oxford University Press. In new media publications, Case is an author for Linked-In Learning online training library, contributing to their Audio Channel with long form, multimedia courses on Reverb and Delay.Engineering, music, and acoustics -- Case lives at the intersection of art, science and education.
