CAP was established in 1975 by a group of California physicians concerned about the spiraling cost of medical malpractice coverage and who were galvanized to do something about it. The result was a unique medical malpractice liability cooperative whose core product—the Mutual Protection Trust (MPT)—provides medical professional liability protection to over 12,000 of California’s finest physicians.

We specialize in fulfilling the coverage needs of physician members of the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP). Our programs include insurance for employment practices liability, cyber liability, workers' compensation, billing errors and omissions, directors and officers liability, and miscellaneous errors and omissions liability.

Responsible for marketing and underwriting of professional liability insurance for non-standard physicians and medical facilities (e.g. medical labs, medical staffing agencies, home health agencies, medical spas, surgical centers, and other miscellaneous medical risks). Also underwrote managed care E&O, D&O and EPLI coverages.

Underwrote professional liability protection for preferred physicians and surgeons, and their medical entities. Underwriting included monthly oral presentations to the physician-staffed Quality Control Committee.

Underwrote medical professional liability insurance for physicians and their medical entities, which also included collaboration with the Marketing Department.
