• Helps prevent the spread of infections within the health care facility.• Develops and recommends policies and procedures pertaining to infection control.• Recognizes and investigates outbreaks of infections in the hospital.• Intervening directly to prevent infections.• Educates and trains health care workers, patients, and non-medical caregivers.

OPERATING ROOM• Assesses the patient’s condition and needs pre-, intra-, and postoperatively.• Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.• Independently sets-up a surgical room, equipment, instruments, and supplies for a procedure.• Performs as a scrub or circulating nurse as needed, based on knowledge and expertise for a specific procedure.• Checks and monitors all equipment used before and during surgery to confirm they are running smoothly.• Provides accurate care and handling of specimens.• Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner.• Inventories all items both pre- and post-surgery.LABOR AND DELIVERY ROOM• Provides care to woman during ante-, intra-, and postpartum.• Performs standard assessment and monitors vital signs including uterine contraction and fetal heart tone and reports abnormal signs and symptoms.• Prepares and assists during special procedures (I.E., amniotomy).• Assists the physician during labor and delivery.• Prepares patient for emergency surgical interventions (C.S., etc).• Administers medication as prescribed.• Educates patient on health care needs and assists on effective pushing.• Provides and educates postpartum care to the mothers, including breast feeding, checking lochia, fundus and episiotomy.• Records all care information.POST ANESTHESIA CARE UNIT• Receives patient from Operating and Delivery Room.• Interprets physician’s and anesthesiologist’s instructions and carries out.• Performs initial assessment and places monitoring equipment and other apparatuses needed.• Frequently assesses patient’s vital signs including pain and monitors for any post-operative symptoms and early complications.• Administers medications, treatment, dressings, and other nursing care, according to physician’s instructions and condition of patient.• Transfers patient to room and provides post-operative teachings to family members and significant others.
