Ali started her work with animals as a volunteer at a local animal shelter in 2011. From there, she worked as a dog adoption counselor and fostered numerous animals that otherwise suffered in the shelter. She has two mixed breed canine rescues of her own, Lucy and Justine. In 2016, she decided to join the world of veterinary medicine. Within a year of being hired as a client care specialist, she started to train as a veterinary technician for Spicewood Springs Animal Hospital. She has remained at SSAH, focusing on Fear Free® animal care, preventative medicine, and client education. She also manages social media and event coordination of both Spicewood Springs Animal Hospital and Spicewood Springs Cat Hospital.Upon learning that Austin's resources were limited for companion animals of survivors of domestic and sexual violence, she began researching how to bridge this gap. She attended SAFE's Sexual Assault Advocacy training, where she confirmed the need for safe, temporary care for pets of survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This was when she decided to create STEP for Pets.STEP for Pets commitment is to provide temporary shelter and care for pets of those escaping domestic violence. We believe survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault should be encouraged to seek safety without fear of losing their companion animals. Our goal is to reduce the number of people and pets trapped in violent situations, keep pets out of animal shelters, encourage safety and autonomy for survivors and their pets, and protect and preserve the human and animal bond.
