This position also serves in leadership position on national boards and appointments related specifically to the public transportation industry.• Directed Re-assessment of External Affairs’ group to assure all communications out of the agency were consistent accurate and had timely distribution to the public at all public levels;• Directed the activities of six departments with over 200 staff members• Volunteered to have the External Affairs budget created every year, based upon increases in revenue-generating activities;• MARTA had a very high, positive position in the community, because of the visibility provided consistently by public affairs staff, the CEO and other senior staff members who were trained in marketing, public speaking and public affairs• A program was launched on the buses and trains where the CEO and members of staff from every part of MARTA (changed each week) would ride the buses and trains and ask customers what we could do better. The media covered the rides and the customers were given a report card with which to grade MARTA’s performance and for suggestions. The grades ranged from “B’s to D’s, and became better as the daily paper published the grades and information on the problems that MARTA was able to fix. It was a great opportunity for employees to bond with each other and the passengers to understand the issues. It also made the CEO a local hero to the customers, a well as and other area CEO’s.
