Responsibilities included;Carrying out high quality ecological surveys for protected species including bats, otter, water vole, red squirrel, badger and great crested newt. Carrying out Phase 1 habitat and National Vegetation Classification surveys. Producing high quality, factual technical reports, technical appendices, feasibility reports, scoping reports and EcIAs. Analysing data, including using Analook to analyse bat sonograms. Liaising with clients, conservation bodies and local authorities. Managing ecology projects: including budget management, survey planning and supporting junior staff. Maintenance of Anabat, SM2 and EM3 bat equipment.

Gained extensive knowledge and experience of development and construction-related issues affecting upland habitats and protected species.Responsibilities included: carrying out pre-construction checks for protected species and ecologically valuable habitats, chairing weekly meetings with the client, contractor and other relevant parties, writing monthly reports and liaising with Scottish Natural Heritage and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.

Led a programme of environmental education. Undertook conservation tasks working in partnership with volunteer organisations and colleges. Conducted biological survey work including surveys for badger, bats, butterflies and wetland birds (as part of the Wetland Bird Survey) .Undertook botanical surveys including a National Vegetation Classification (NVC) survey.

Assisted in removing and relocating protected amphibians, reptiles and mammals from a proposed construction site as part of the mitigation programme.
