As an undergraduate studying political science and U.S. constitutional law, I became intrigued by how the law works, the logic and reasoning behind why courts rule the way they do (even if I didn’t always agree with the decision) and how laws can be interpreted to support a position on any number of issues. I found it intuitive to review a hypothetical dispute scenario and anticipate the court’s likely interpretation and ruling. Today, I still enjoy following that deduction process with current cases, and learning through working with all kinds of people—from renowned physicians to our CEO and executive team to all sorts of administrative and support professionals. Even with more than 20 years in patent and contract law, their diverse perspectives add to my resourcefulness and efficiency and further reduce my learning curve as a senior patent paralegal and contract specialist. I also draw perspective from my early years as a courier and records clerk for one of the largest law firms in the Southeast; counseling seniors on retirement and estate planning; setting up medical practices and maintaining corporate notebooks and records; and in corporate law for the manufacturing industry. For more than the last decade, I’ve been fascinated and rewarded by intellectual property and the docketing process: helping brilliant inventors obtain patents by prepare oaths and declarations, completing and processing patent applications, and driving contract negotiation and management.My colleagues say I’m friendly, easygoing, and calm under pressure. I develop good relationships with just about everyone, including people others consider difficult.
