The Business Excellence department was founded in 2018 to drive continuous improvement and facilitate a culture of excellence focused on increasing process effectiveness and efficiency and for executing, monitoring and reporting on the health of in-house and supplier quality systems and the quality of the products produced and services provided. Business Excellence includes Process Improvement, Quality and Compliance, Environmental, Health and Safety, Customer Satisfaction, Ethics, Business Continuity, Information Security and IT. Business Excellence maintain ISO 9001, 14001, 27001 and 45001 systems and certification managing the internal audit schedule and hosting external audits. In 2020 successful application for ISO 45001 certification with BSI for all Transport Intelligence sites in the UK.The Head of Business Excellence is responsible for implementing best in class processes and systems to make the business more efficient and effective. Regularly facilitate workshops with the rest of the Senior Management Team to develop the organisation’s strategic objectives and goals, developing these into detailed tactic plans, and then measuring, monitoring and reporting progress. Developed and implemented a programme of change to drive and support process improvement to measure and improve performance, including implementing an integrated management system and developing and maintaining a global risk management process. Instigated and lead the organisation’s root cause and effective action programme (8D) and implementation of Lean (5S).

Managed the final stages of the development of the company EMV offering with initial pilot trials and then full deployment across the fleet on Arriva North East and Lothian Bus projects.

Head of Projects (April 06 – August 16)The Projects department provides Project Management expertise across all functions of the business. The Head of Projects ensures all projects are delivered to the time, cost and quality objectives, maximising customer satisfaction and opportunities for business growth. The role has full profit & loss responsibility, with a project portfolio of approx £20-25m per year. The multi-disciplinary projects range in size and complexity, typically between £100k to £10m and cover both the UK and overseas markets. Project Manager - Plate Mill in North China (August 02 – March 2004)Project Manager on a Plate Mill upgrade in North China. Value approximately £10m. Responsible for all technical and commercial aspects of the project, from design, supply, manufacture, erection and commissioning, including extensive periods in China.Project Manager - Aluminium Hot Mill in Croatia and Aluminium Foil Mill Modernisation in Czech Republic (July 99 – November 02)Project Manager on an Aluminium Hot Mill in Croatia. Responsible for all technical and commercial aspects of the project, from manufacture of equipment through to site erection, commissioning and final acceptance.Project Engineer in South Africa (January 99 – June 99)Responsible for the commissioning of a commercial grade galvanising line. This incorporated co-ordinating all mechanical, fluid, electrical and automation functions; scheduling, organising and supervising all tests and trials; evaluating and solving problems and liaising with the customer, suppliers, subcontractors and VAI UK.Commercial Officer (April 98- January 99)Involving all commercial, legal and financial aspects of tender preparation, including negotiation and pricing of a major contract in India. Liasing with export credit agencies (ECGD, OeKB and CGIC) and financial institutions organising project finance packages including commercial loans, bank guarantees and bonds.Technical Sales Engineer (September 96 – April 98)Responsible for the preparation of Steel processing lines pre-project proposals, involving meeting with customers and evaluating their technical requirements, performing all necessary tension and throughput calculations to size the line, finally producing and presenting a technical specification, line layout and price.
