I've been the Executive Officer of the Australian Catholic Anti-slavery Network (ACAN) since July 2019. Over 50 Catholic organisations participate in the ACAN risk management program in response to the Australian Modern Slavery Act (Cth) 2018. 154 Catholic Modern Slavery Statements have been submitted to the Government Online Register covering 115 ABNs of reporting entities across a range of sectors including finance and investment, schools and universities, health and aged care and social services. Domus 8.7, an independent remediation service was announced in February 2020 to support people impacted by modern slavery and to assist businesses with any concerns about situations of extreme labour exploitation in their operations or supply chains.I'm passionate about improving the lives of vulnerable migrant workers in Australia. I have decades of experience building relationships of trust with workers, identifying and assisting victims of wage theft, labour exploitation, forced labour, debt bondage, deceptive recruitment and human trafficking.In 2024, I received a commendation from the NSW Anti-Slavery Commissioner – Achievement in Fostering Responsible Business Practices. Commendation for modelling how survivors and allies can work together to promote responsible business practice.Previously, I worked for the WalkFree Foundation as Pacific Consultant and the Salvation Army’s Freedom Partnership to End Modern Slavery, playing an active role in advocating for Australia’s Modern Slavery legislation. I am a labour rights specialist having spent 16 years representing workers in wide range of sectors from airports, cargo terminals to abattoirs. During my time in the trade union movement I represented workers in the prosecution of civil cases for underpayment of wages and a myriad of workplace disputes from WHS to outsourcing and sub-contracting.
