Librarian with over 12 years experience working with youth and families, managing social media platforms and creating marketing and outreach materials.Currently, I am the Programs, Outreach and Youth Services Manager for Monterey County Free Libraries. In this role, I am the go-to person for all library services related to families and youth, such as storytimes, homework centers, school outreach, and children’s and young adult literature.     As the Programs, Outreach and Youth Services Manager for Monterey County Free Libraries (MCFL), I provide library services to over 200,000 individuals across 3,000 square miles via 16 branch libraries and 3 bookmobiles. I supervise two direct reports, oversee MCFL's Reading Machine vehicle (early literacy outreach), 10 Homework Centers, MCFL's social media platforms and 31 branchlets.My favorite duty is overseeing MCFL's virtual programming. I create and edit engaging, educational and fun video content for MCFL's YouTube Channel targeted at a variety of age levels. I also edit and produce video content created by other staff members and am in charge of posting video content to Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.I create system wide publicity and marketing for programs and services to be distributed both in person and virtually using Canva. Materials include flyers, brochures, and informational graphics and posts for social media.I conduct regular staff trainings both in person and virtually, connect interested organizations to our branches with the purpose of establishing program partnerships, and serve as the system selector for all youth materials, young adult materials and graphic novels.I actively help maintain MCFL's webpage event calendar, write and apply for system wide grants, and write promotional pieces on system wide initiatives and programs for various media outlets. I provide back-up to MCFL’s branches by acting as a substitute reference librarian, children’s librarian and storytime presenter and am currently filling in at the Seaside Library.As a supervisor, I use my belief in fairness towards all, as well as my compassionate, friendly and thoughtful personality, to create an open and fun working environment where staff feel appreciated, supported and able to express themselves and their ideas in a safe and welcoming environment.I work out of MCFL's administrative offices, and am often found on the road traveling up and down Monterey County.

    As a Youth Services Librarian for Monterey Public Library, I served as the lead coordinator for programs and services targeted towards Kindergarten-5th graders. I worked with staff to plan and conduct the Summer Reading Program, as well as created and implemented the library’s first Winter Reading Program: developing the reading logs, purchasing prize books and creating all logistics for the program. This program had 1,000 participants in it's first year!I had a large role in outreach and was the lead coordinator in partnering with local schools and organizations to educate youth about the library. I served as back-up Bookmobile driver, driving to the vehicle's 8 stops every week for 3 months. I also drove to a local elementary school every other week for a year and a half to provide access to books after the school got rid of the school library.In house, I worked the Library Help Desk an average of 20 hours a week, providing general reference and readers’ advisory to patrons in person, over the phone and through email. I created and maintained displays for the youth area that included both passive programs, information about library events and showcased new and seasonal materials. I was responsible for creating all publicity materials for upcoming library programs including flyers, bookmarks, monthly press releases, monthly event calendars and social media posts. I selected and purchased materials for the library’s collection including children’s DVDs, children’s fiction, children’s graphic novels and children’s audiobooks.I served as the lead grant writer in an effort to purchase a new electric bookmobile for the library and also served as the Librarian In-Charge on a regular basis. In an attempt to help improve staff morale, I created and led the Party Planning Committee. This team created monthly events to help boost a sense of togetherness and good will among staff members.

    My position as Children's Librarian (both Librarian I and II) at the San Mateo Public Library was very focused on program planning. I was the lead coordinator for major system wide programs: the Family Read Aloud Program (estimated 1,000 participants annually) and the Summer Learning Challenge (estimated 2,000 participants annually). Over 5 years I planned and presented approximately 1,040 storytimes, with between 75-100 participants per storytime. I also was the library’s Staff Liaison to the Latino Cultural Advisory Committee and planned and conducted programming geared towards, or related to, Latino patrons and/or the Latino Experience.I was responsible for the marketing aspect of program planning, developing all publicity materials for both the Children’s Department and the Latino Cultural Advisory Committee. I was an active member of the Social Media Team, creating and running the library’s Instagram account which amassed over 1,000 followers in its first year.My proudest accomplishment in this position was my work with tweens. I planned and conducted monthly programming for tweens for 4 years, equating to an average of 48 programs with 35-50 participants per program. I started a Tween Advisory Group and was featured in a School Library Journal article about tweens!I worked the Children’s Reference Desk daily providing general reference and readers' advisory to patrons. I filled in on all public reference desks and at SMPL’s two branches as needed. I selected and purchased materials for all areas of the library’s youth collection, as well as for the adult Spanish collection.I was a supervisor in my role as Librarian II and supervised one direct report, as well as the library's Teen Summer Learning Assistant volunteers - a group of 15-25 teens, and regularly served as acting in-charge manager.
