So how did I come to be Director of Red Sails Homecare Ltd? I grew up in Bournemouth, and after 40 years in South Africa I came back.In 1975 and married, we went overland to South Africa. At G & W Base Industrial Minerals I became Company Buyer. Then VETSAK I rose to Snr Industrial Buyer.Then sales manager with Drake International in recruitment.Later, as a full time mum I was Chairlady of the Local Association of Guiding and also a ‘La Leche League’ leader. The children grew. I went back to work. I sold fasteners, silicon, payroll and more, and settled with the employment consultancy Accountants-On-Call managing 150+ temp staff in companies from Blue Chip to one-man-bands. I met and engaged with thousands of wonderful people.Single & independent: I returned to the UK for a while.With few assets and no permanent home Live-in care seemed a good solution. I cared for the elderly and infirm for 4 years. Each client had individual needs and every home was different. It was a challenge and a delight to be embraced into people’s homes and to know that I could make a difference to my client’s daily lives. I met many carers & with my experiences and their insights I came to understand the intricacies of live-in caring.I didn’t return to South Africa. With my knowledge of caring & business experience I was confident I could offer a professional service with a personal approach. I researched and studied & 18 months later I formed Red Sails and began the considerable task of looking for exceptional carers. In September 2013 I introduced carers to our first clients. 1 year later & I’m pleased with the continued growth of the company. Ask any of our carers or clients & they are most likely to say that they feel valued and cared for. Clients thank me for making a difference to their lives. It’s most encouraging. It’s a good relationship. So I’m back in Bournemouth for good & I’m enjoying providing jobs for people and making a difference to people’s lives.
