Created a welcoming environment in the clinic by providing excellent customer care from the first telephone contact through clients’ arrival and treatment at the clinic. Optimized patient flow by answering multi-line telephones, scheduling appointments, performing monetary transactions, preparing and organizing paperwork, and maintaining patient records. Coordinated communication between clients and veterinarians to guarantee effective patient care and assisted veterinary technicians with restraint and vaccination when needed.

Worked with White Oak Conservation's Animal Wellness Team to streamline the animal wellness & lifestyle program and align with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' (AZA) Standards 1.5.0 & 1.6.1. Included creating and editing animal wellness documentation and resources, organizing completed assessments, and coordinating with the various wildlife area teams in relation to wellness initiatives. Presented animal welfare science principles, overview of AZA standards, and White Oak's animal wellness resources to wildlife area staff as part of animal wellness training.

Collected, organized, and analyzed behavioral data for Grévy's zebra (Equus grevyi) housed at facilities partnered with the South-East Zoo Alliance for Reproduction & Conservation. Assisted in periodic endocrine lab work, including weighing animal fecal samples, preparing hormone extracts from fecal samples, loading enzyme immunoassay (EIA) plates with hormone extracts and/or serum, analyzing results, and entering data.

Worked for 5 weeks under research mentor investigating how keeper presence influences the cardiac patterns of captive maned wolves (Chrysocyon brachyurus) housed at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, VA. Transferred a year's worth of maned wolf keeper activity information to an Excel sheet. Cleaned, filtered, and paired keeper activity and maned wolf heart data in R to correlate keeper arrival and presence times with wolf heart rates. Constructed a linear mixed model in R to determine if keeper presence can predict 2-minute heart rate averages in captive maned wolves. Presented research findings to 22 students and numerous SCBI and conservation professionals.

Assisted community director in providing resources for up to 36 students living on campus. Organized educational and recreational community activities for two 16-week semesters to facilitate resident involvement and connection. Designed informational posters for community activities and conservation-related learning opportunities. Conducted nightly rounds of the residence building to ensure safety and comfort of all residents.

Worked for 5 weeks under research mentor studying the influence of translocated swift foxes’ (Vulpes velox) behavioral and physiological profiles on their post-release survival and reproduction. Recorded data in Excel for over 3,000 15-second videos taken from motion sensor cameras. Processed and analyzed video data in R to create histograms showing frequency of fox video captures, as a proxy for fox activity, at different hours of the day. Presented research findings to 35 students and multiple SCBI and conservation professionals.

Assisted PhD candidate studying the correlation of juvenile captive-raised American robins’ (Turdus migratorius) personalities and response to predator stimuli to help predict post-release survivorship. Cared for up to 15 young robins at a time (nestlings, fledglings, and juveniles), assisted in predator training sessions handling up to 50 robins per session, and recorded birds’ reactions to predator stimuli. Results to be applied towards captive-raising and reintroduction methods for threatened avian species.

Assisted in the care and rehabilitation of wild and education ambassador corvids and songbirds of Northern Virginia. Included providing food & water to rehab and education ambassador birds, weighing rehab birds to ensure proper physical health and development, administering medications according to prescriptions, examining and treating birds for signs of illness or injury, training education ambassador birds to perform tasks using positive reinforcement, identifying each rehab intake and organizing paperwork, and assisting in education events.
