The experience of designing and building a project in under six months was transformative to my understanding of tectonics and design. Confluence Hall, which is part of the Colorado Outward Bound's Southwest Campus, provided a dining facility for staff members. The collaborative effort required strong planning, communication and independent research. As co-lead of the ‘spa’ team, we innovatively used hand-packed concrete to create a statement-making sink and were able to find a compromise between code requirements and the clients’ needs within a small footprint. I was also responsible for the scheduling of the project to ensure adequate time, students and materials were available to complete critical tasks.

As a Bilingual Program Facilitator in the Education Department at the Denver Art Museum, I led in-gallery experiences in which visitors looked closely and critically at art objects, learned about each unique object’s history, and found inspiration to create and design an art object of their own.

Teaching English in a small, rural town in Argentina forced me to creatively solve complex problems and communicate across cultural barriers in the classroom and everyday life. I gained leadership experience and confidence by independently teaching over 400 hours of classes to students between the ages of six and eighteen.
