Alison Sant is a Partner and Co-Founder of the Studio for Urban Projects, a design collaborative that works at the intersection of design, urbanism, and social activism. Since 2006, the Studio has focused on public programming, urban prototyping, and civic dialog–aiming to bring social justice and sustainability to the design of cities. In 2016, it was honored for contributing to its field by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts as a member of the YBCA100. Sant is the author of From the Ground Up: Local Efforts to Create Resilient Cities, named among the best books of 2022 by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and Planetizen. She has spoken for numerous organizations, including the Atlantic Magazine, Smithsonian, American Planning Association (APA), Smart Growth America, Audubon Society, Transit Center, Regional Planning Association, SPUR, and the Center for the Living City’sJane Jacobs Lecture Series. Sant’s writing has been featured in U.S. News and World Report, Next City, Planetizen, Streetsblog, Earth Island Magazine, and Fast Company. Her work has been supported by the Headlands Center for the Arts, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Resilient By Design, SPUR, California Coastal Conservancy, and the Exploratorium, among others.
