From my observation and experiences in the past years, I have realized that high school students lack the resources to access volunteer opportunities, especially those who are willing to devote their time. In addition, access to opportunities, resources, and financial support is still a missing piece for the underprivileged. This led me to create Sharity, a volunteer organization that connects the communities I volunteered at with student volunteers from my international school as well as with businesses that are interested in helping the younger generation. Utilizing the resources provided by the Taishin bank, we have cooperated with and volunteered regularly at four organizations: Guide Dog Association, Autism Foundation, Harmony Home Foundation, and Agape Association.Every Christmas, we hold a fundraising event, recruiting participants to attend the Christmas ornament craft-making for the charity sale. At last, we donated 200,000 NTD. Although at first, we struggled to increase the exposure of this club and the events we scheduled as well as to deal with conflicts between our volunteers and those organizations, our perseverance, patience, and increasing skills in communication have led us to understand more about this operation and, most importantly, become closer to our community. By initiating Sharity, I discovered how communication, collaboration, and innovation can make a real impact. I was overwhelmed by the impacts of this little operation, not only by the donations we received but also by the positive feedback from students and the children we have helped. With this concept in mind, I hope to duplicate my methods on an international scale someday. Sharity has inspired me with the potential of business and entrepreneurship.
