Responsible for delivery of ACI's Wholesale Payments platform (MTS) within the EMEA region - from Sales, through Project to Production Support.

My brief for this role was to build and manage a Middle East Support office in Bahrain to support both the local ACI and USSI customers (a total of 14 customers at the time). The role required that I reside in Bahrain.I defined both the technical and personnel infrastructure required to support and manage our existing install base - leading to further additional sales and new customers in the area.The next phase of the plan was to replace as many members of staff as possible with local staff and to build up the local support operation by encompassing more aspects of the delivery role. As an experienced Project Manager I quickly took on the role of managing all new local projects. To inject local staff into the operation, graduates were recruited from the local University and passed through an extensive learning program (6 months in duration) before taking up positions on the help desk.The support operation now provides the functions of Help Desk, Project Management, ASTech, software installation (BASE24 only at this time) and Development. The success of the group can be measured by the local operations expansion and its consistency in meeting all targets set (revenue, help desk responsiveness, all local projects are managed by the Bahrain office, etc).

Responsible for the Project Management, installation and support of all EMEA customers of Tandem Connex software (10 strategic customers) including the new development of many European standard products required for the market place (interfaces to VISA, EPSS, BEST, MINT, etc.). Annual sales for the Tandem Development and Support group often exceeded £5 million.Reporting directly to the General Manager of Connex Europe, my responsibilities for the staff that reported to me included recruitment, staff development, staff training and staff scheduling.As Delivery Manager, I played a major part in the pre-sales for Connex Europe, including the production of responses to proposals, the production and giving of presentations to prospects, and the answering of ad-hoc technical questions from prospects for both the old EFT product and the new Connex/Advantage product.During my time in this role I produced and implemented many procedures that enabled this part of the business to achieve the ISO 9001/BS5750 standard.

Responsible for all aspects of the Project Management for two new sales of Connex software, Yorkshire Bank and SIA, Milan (for which I formed part of the pre-sales team working out of the SPL offices in Milan with local support staff). Staff assigned to the projects included staff already reporting to me at the time, staff recruited from elsewhere in the company and staff from Deluxe Data Systems in Milwaukee.Responsibilities included scheduling, installation, customer training (including operations), bespoke development and handover. During this period, also responsible for the selection, hiring and training of the operations staff for the SIA (Milan, Italy) company.

Responsible for support of the LINK Interchange Network, then the only customer of Connex software outside the United States. Leading a team of support analysts and responsible for the recruitment and training of new support personnel.

Provided the analysis, design and testing of the statistics collection and reporting and policy displays for individual broker access to a life assurance company's computer system over various Value Added Networks (MEDIAT, PRESTEL & INVIEW). Later responsibilities included the specification of data translation programs required in order to provide access to the networks.

Multiple roles on this project (Soft Commodities Dealing System) from Program Design, through Development Team Leader, Acceptance Test design to Acceptance Test Manager. Finally responsible for all aspects of the client's acceptance testing, including the creation and control of the user test database and accompanying test systems, Many of the customer's staff, including the operations manager, were reporting to me at this time.

Provided development and implementation of the software environment for testing and live running of a dealing system for a London Bullion Broker. Additionally, responsible for the tuning and modification of a sub-system and the testing of access to, and exploitation of, the GUARDIAN operating system. All development was performed in COBOL and SCOBOL (PATHWAY).

Designed and implemented the program suite to set up and monitor equipment controlled by the system. The system (running on a PDP-11, programmed in RTL/2) controlled a store for painted car bodies prior to being “trimmed”.
