I'm a teacher and librarian with 10+ years of experience in K-12 schools. I have worked with all grade levels, but my passion lies in middle school. As an educator, my strengths are in building relationships with my students, using formative assessment to adjust my instruction to meet student needs, and using children's and young adult literature as a tool to foster the development of empathy.As a writer, I have completed several young adult fantasy novels. While none of them are published, I have gained the ability to complete long-term projects; in-depth knowledge of the writing process; and the ability to give, receive, and implement feedback. Volunteering with multiple civic engagement organizations has developed my understanding of how local government works, as well as how to share this knowledge with my community. I have interviewed candidates for local office and worked collaboratively to prepare recommendations for political endorsement committees, revised portions of platforms for various groups, and managed communications for a local nonprofit.In my spare time, I practice yoga and train in martial arts. I also enjoy baking, tending to my ever-growing collection of plants, and reading romance novels.
