As an incoming freshman at UMass Amherst, I knew I wanted to be more than just a student. I wanted to be a productive member of society. I joined Phi Gamma Delta as a freshman and it gave me the opportunity to do exactly that. Since joining my fraternity, I have been able to earn the vote of my peers to become their leader in different positions such as the Chapter Historian, Recruitment Board Member and as a Philanthropy Board Member. In these roles, I have also been able to serve the UMass Amherst college community and the community surrounding it by participating in several different community service events and different volunteering events. Some of these community service events we host include our Annual Puck Run, which raises awareness and money for the Epilepsy Research Foundation and Relay for Life which raises awareness for Cancer. On a weekly basis, we volunteers in street clean ups and at Craig’s Door. The community service and volunteering I do on a regular basis with Phi Gamma Delta, has influenced what I want to do as a career. As a Psychology and Public Health major, I have learned a lot about community health and the different issues within the field and that our communities face. I want to be able to continue working within the community I live in to help change it and improve the lives of the people who live there. I am looking forward to connecting with fellow classmates, colleagues, and professionals in both the Psychology and Public Health field.
