As an associate at Tk Maxx, I undertook many roles. I assisted customers on the shop floor, put out new stock, maintained areas of the shop floor to tidy and served customers on the fitting rooms/tills. This role allowed me to enhance my team working skills, communication skills and organisation skills. It also led me to develop visual merchandising skills when featuring new stock. I became a cash office associate in June 2022 which allowed me to develop my mathematical skills further.

As a cashier within Office Shoes, I had the responsibility of mainly being on the till. I dealt with the money at the end of the night, customer refunds/exchanges, filled out financial documents, and served customers on the till.

I started off as a sales assistant working my way to cashier within Office Shoes. My roles as a sales assistant was to assist customers when they needed help, ensure the shop floor was tidy, answering customer phone calls and making sure all products on the shop floor had a price on them that customers could easily see. I also undertook the role of stock room assistant for a few weeks before moving to cashier. This is where I would scan and put away the delivery, ensuring the shoes were in the correct place for my colleagues.

As part of my final year at Grove Academy, I undertook Young Enterprise. Before we had even created our company, we came to our first problem of everyone leaving the subject due to resitting previous subjects. Therefore there was 2 of us left to run a business with the help of our business teacher.We decided to do an ethical product and in the end we decided on candles. These were ethically sourced from the jar to the wick. We decided to use scents associated with Scotland as we are Scottish; this proved successful according to our EPOS system and irn bru/retro sweets were the most popular. My roles involved; doing the final accounts for the business, investigating customer insights based on our EPOS system, marketing the product through the use of social media, sourcing raw materials, designing and manufacturing our products/packaging and being one of the business directors. We won the best company report.

I gained even more communication skills through taking orders and speaking to customers face to face. I also worked as part of a team to make sure orders were completed correctly and if they weren't correctly then we worked as a team to fix the mistakes quick.

Working as a waitress involved doing lots of things such as mopping the floors, cleaning tables/chairs, hoovering, serving coffee/tea and making sandwiches. I achieved many skills during my time as a waitress. By speaking to customers every shift I became more and more confident with asking customers if everything was ok for them and asking them what they wanted. I also gained more communication skills by speaking to everyone. I worked as part of a small team and learned to work together under pressure when there was busy time periods. My organisation skills also improved as before the cafe opened we had to ensure everything was ready for the day. The cafe sadly had to close so all staff had to leave.
