Graduate researcher at the University of California, San Diego in the lab of Dr. Seth M. Cohen. My primary research focuses on the design, synthesis and characterization of small molecule inhibitors for Zn(II)-dependent metalloenzyme New Delhi Metallo-beta-lactamase (NDM). Through fragment-based drug discovery (FBDD), enzymatic assay development, and computational docking, primary lead fragment was converted to yield a selective and potent NDM inhibitor which showed the formation of a stable ternary Zn:NDM:inhibitor complex. Bioisosterism was also implemented to yield new molecular entities (NMEs) for NDM inhibitor development. Led and organized the largest published literature review of clinically relevant metalloenzyme targets and inhibitors to date, contributing to the education of this untapped field of therapeutic targets. Other roles in the Cohen lab include the management of lab purchasing, maintaining communal instruments, mentoring undergraduate/visiting students.

Undergraduate researcher at the University of California, Irvine in the lab of Dr. Kenneth J. Shea. Under the supervision of Dr. Adam Weisman, my research focused on the synthesis of nanoparticle Antitoxins for Salmonella enterica. I aided in the synthesis and evaluation of aromatic polymer nanoparticles to optimization its biospecific affinity with peptide phenol-soluble modulin α3 (PSMα3). MTT cell viability assay and Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) Analysis were utilized to screen the ability of the nanoparticles to neutralize PSMα3. This research demonstrated the successful design and elevation of synthetic polymer nanoparticles that bind with high affinity to PSMα3.
