I enjoy collaborating with distinct partners in the community, such as the Goodspeed Opera House and the East Haddam Historical Society. I know it is important to preserve the past of this library system and look forward to what we can innovate in the future.

Libraries are about connecting people with great materials, as well as helping them learn new ideas, meet other library patrons, and feel a part of their community. My job as Head of Public Services had three distinct roles. I act as Assistant Director, representing the library in public functions, meetings, and in day-to-day activities. I also managed the busy borrowing desk as Head of Circulation. As the Head of Facilities, I consulted with maintenance crews, monitored the physical plant, and oversaw the building and grounds. Eight staff members reported to me, and I love fostering their growth and development within our library.

One of the most unique parts of my job was initiating and coordinating a Skype visit with NASA astronauts on the International Space Station, which was the high point of our summer reading program. Here are a few of the innovative programs I've introduced to the library:- Learn & Grow: early literacy weekly text message program for parents- Break It-Make It Lab: fun and messy STEAM program for 3-5th graders- Sensory Story Time: monthly music-based story time for children on the spectrum or who have sensory integration issues- Reading to Rover: monthly therapy dog reading session- Once Upon a Cuentos: bilingual storytime for preschoolers and families - The Bookmark podcastEach story time season I create and implement story time programs for young children (age newborn - fifth grade) and caregivers. I incorporate Every Child Ready to Read practices in all my story times and focus on sharing early literacy tips with families. I’ve spoken at state and national meetings and conferences about early literacy and children’s programs. I love training and mentoring new and aspiring children’s librarians through the library and ALSC Mentorship program. I purchase materials for our collection and provide reader’s advisory for anyone who needs help.

Redding, Ct

At the Mark Twain Library I was responsible for creating and implementing weekly story times for children from birth through age 4, as well as various thematic programs for grades K - 8 throughout the year. I purchased books on a monthly basis for babies through young adults and managed a performer budget for children's programs. I publicized and promoted all children's programs through various social media, including a monthly newsletter.

Weston, Ct

Weston Woods is the archival home for many classic children's films and videos. While working here I managed plans for development of the museum for archived Weston Woods artwork. I was also responsible for coordinating and organizing their collection of original children’s book art.

At Roaring Brook Press I coordinated plans for corporate attendance at school and library conferences. In addition, I arranged publicity for new book titles in major library journals and designed promotions for school and library marketing plans.

One of the best part of working at Scholastic was getting to know authors and illustrators such as Judy Blume, Norman Bridwell, and Dav Pilkey. I traveled with authors and illustrators to assist in promotional tours and conference attendance. While here I developed promotional activities for specific authors and new titles. I also directed advanced reader copy distribution to schools, libraries, and review journals.
