Allison Alvarez Hedrick was named as the Executive Director of Outreach Free Clinic and Resource Center in October 2020. Prior to the clinic, Allison worked with WEDU PBS for 2 years in the Marketing and Community Partnerships department and was promoted to Vice President of Communications overseeing WEDU’s brand management and public relations efforts as well as station outreach, friend-raising and fundraising events including the annual WEDU Be More Awards which celebrated record-breaking attendance in February 2014. Allison served in this role for 9 years.Allison found her love of nonprofits through an assortment of public relations and event planning assignments at The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), Largo Cultural Center, and Suncoast Girl Scout Council. While at LLS, chapters across the nation took notice of Allison’s web strategies and began requesting training for their local staff. She also served on the board for the Boys & Girls Clubs and for the town of Mount Olive in North Carolina.Allison draws on her experiences in the for-profit sector. She served as the Communications Specialist at Carolina Turkeys, one of the world’s largest food processing companies, where she also facilitated experiential leadership training courses and served as the company liaison to the surrounding community. Allison gained her graphics and journalism background while serving with Val-Pak Direct Marketing Systems and The Tampa Tribune, Highlands Today, The Pilot, and The Robesonian newspapers. She also served for 4 years as the graphics editor of the SWS Newsletter, an international sociology journal.Allison grew up in Brandon, Florida, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where she fell in love with the surrounding rural communities, its Native American culture, and the friendliness of the people.Currently, she resides in Lithia, Florida with her husband, Jimmy.
