About Allison Swan
Allison Swan is inspired by the beauty in nature and paints in an Expressive Realist style in oil. Predominantly self-taught, Allison was surrounded by art in her childhood in he mother’s small gallery and summer afternoons in the studio of artist William Ellsworth. Allison focused on sales and marketing until her son’s school project in 2005 required a painting. With the overwhelming feeling of “I can do that”, she picked up a brush, bought dozens of books and began painting. Months before her mother’s death in 2008, Allison was accepted in her first juried show and her mother was able to see her work in a gallery. Allison’s health declined as she battled Lyme disease, and by 2010 she lost the ability to paint. Five years later, Allison picked up a brush and enrolled in classes with Dutch artist Carole Boogeman Pierson on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Carole’s teaching transformed her work over the next year and a half. Allison’s art is inspired by the landscapes of the Virginia Tidewater, the Eastern Shore and her travels to Costa Rica and California.
