As a Board member of the public software company Redknee, Alan was chair of the Audit Committee and participated on the Special Committee of the Board established to review strategic alternatives avialable to the company. This review led to a successful financing and partnering with a strategic investor.

As President of Kenan Systems , a wholly owned subsidiary of CSG providing monetization and customer care solutions to telecommunication companies worldwide , he and his team were responsible for developing and implementing a transformation plan that over a 4 year time frame resulted in dramatic improvement in product quality, customer and employee satisfaction and profitability.

Mr. Michels participated in various entrepreneurial activities. He was an original investor, part time president, and member of the board of PlaNet Consulting Inc., a provider of consulting services to companies implementing complex technology solutions. After a period of solid growth, PlaNet Consulting was sold to the Nasdaq listed public company, CSG International.

As President and CEO of Telewest Communications Plc., he led the company through a successful IPO raising $450 million. During his three years of leadership, Telewest became the largest broadband distribution company in The United Kingdom providing combined cable TV and telephony services and data services over the same broadband infrastructure. Today, the company is Virgin Media PLC.

In his role as VP of Finance,Treasurer and CFO for NewVector, a provider of wireless communications, he was responsible for Finance, Strategic Planning, M&A and Partner Relations. He and his team were instrumental in leading NewVector to dramatically improve its customer growth, cost structure, and capital efficiency which enabled the company to be successfully merged with what is today, Verizon Communications, Inc.

In his role as VP of Finance and Administration and CFO for Applied Communications, Inc., a provider of transaction processing software to the banking and telecommunications industries, his responsibilities included all finance functions as well as Human Resources and M.I.S. He participated on the Board of a joint venture between the company and two European software companies and put in place the deal structure which enabled ACI to successfully obtain 100% of the venture. He was an instrumental member of the management team that led to a successful divestiture of the company from its parent and subsequent management buyout and IPO. Today the company is a Nasdaq listed public company,Transaction Systems Architects.
