Nutrition training with mothers: co-facilitated nutrition trainings, educating mothers on how long to breastfeed their newborns, and when and what to feed them as they grow. High School Health Club: During the 2015-2016 school year, co-led the high school’s health club. 160 students were involved in four aspects of the club: peer-to-peer education, community conversation, orphan and vulnerable children support, and the HIV/AIDS club. -Secondary Projects-Malaria Awareness Campaign – Distributed insecticide treated bed nets at the health center and city center, conveyed messages on malaria transmission and proper bed net use to over 300 families.Gender Club – Organized and co-facilitated two clubs entirely in Amharic. Open to female students only, topics covered included reproductive health, STDs, leadership skills, goal setting, culturally-appropriate negotiation techniques for oppressive situations, and team-building exercises. These students went on to attend camp GLOWs and are continuing and expanding gender club at the high school entirely on their own, working with four clubs to reach over 100 students in this year.

As a research assistant in the Henley Lab, I specialized in specific software programs. I was responsible for training 20-30 students per semester ArcGIS and Filemaker Pro, and supervising 5-6 group final projects. I was also available for helping students with statistical analysis on quantitative and qualitative research projects, using SPSS statistical software. I supported research initiatives of faculty and students in Wilkinson School of Humanities, serving up to three professors and 50 students in a given semester. Most often I worked for Dr. Carolyn Vieira-Martinez, a scholar of Central African History, by creating maps and databases for her research. I was also a teaching assistant for HIST 160: African History from Ancient to 1800ad, HIST 170: African History, 1800 to Present, and HIST 210: Language, Space and Power.
