I worked closely with the support and QA teams, systems analysts, customers, and 3rd party developers. My maintenance work involved:* Working with Capita's support staff to investigate and resolve customers' problems.* Investigating and resolving bugs.* Improving performance of parts of the system* Making changes required by upgrades in the underlying platform: for example I led the migration of our C code from 32 bit to 64 bit, and also through the change to a newer version of the Ingres database. The new developments I worked on included:* File based interfaces to 3rd party systems. In C* Designed & implemented SOAP web-services. Using in-house framework built on Apache AXIS server and Ingres' OpenROAD application server (Involving OpenROAD, XML-schema, XSLT and Java)* Changes to multiple parts of the system to support then new Universal Credit benefit (involving front-end GUI changes in OpenROAD, and server-side C programs).* design and development of new module to allow customers to survey their tenants. Using an OpenROAD GUI and C server-side processing.* Led team implementing changes needed by the 2017 Homelessness Reduction Act.Initially, we carried out new developments using a Waterfall process, but later moved to an Agile process, based on Scrum.I was an advocate of improving the teams development practices – leading the introduction of Subversion into the team (replacing a manual procedure), and developing a unit test framework based on cUnit. This system runs on an HP Unix system, and stores details of customers and calls in an Oracle database. Early tasks included:* taking on responsibility for performing builds, where I was able to automate much of the manual process, and reduce the time to perform a build from half a day to around 15 minutes.* the design and implementation of a TCP/IP server to process requests from a 3rd party system. After my promotion to Team Leader I was responsible for a team of 3-5 developers working on the TAP system. This allows T-Mobile to exchange call data with other GSM networks so that their subscribers can "roam" (use their 'phones in another country). TAP exchanges data with foreign networks using the GSMA's TAP3 format (based on ASN1), and with other systems using XML and proprietary formats. I worked on the whole system; from maintaining the Configuration Management system, to the core Rater Engine (call pricing). My work involved all stages of the project life-cycle: analysis of new requirements from the customer, development, maintenance work. I also helped provide 24/7 technical support to T-Mobile on a rota system. My work was mainly in 'C' and Pro*C (C with embedded SQL) with some use of SQL, PL/SQL, Korn shell and AWK scripts. Show less
