About Alyson Fox
I am a dedicated computational mathematician with a passion for advancing numerical algorithms and enhancing data representation and compression techniques. Currently, I am part of the Mathematical Algorithms and Computing group within the Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). My research primarily focuses on variable precision computing, iterative solvers for linear systems and eigenvalue problems, asynchronous iterative methods, and floating-point error analysis. I am also deeply involved in developing resilient numerical methods for atypical computing environments.I joined LLNL as a postdoctoral researcher in 2017 and transitioned to a staff scientist role in 2018. My academic background includes a Ph.D. and M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics and a minor in Business from Loyola University Maryland.

I worked with Geoff Sanders on the implementation of Katz ranking and Centerpiece subgraph algorithms in C++ in LLNL's Glider graph package that is built off of Trilinos. In conjunction, I research low-degree elimination for directed graph Laplacians to enhance multilevel linear solvers. I also participated in LLNL's Data Heroes program that instructs students in large data handling, machine learning, statistics and high performance computing.

I worked with Geoff Sanders on applying several techniques to enhance Lean Algebraic Multigrid performance on undirected graph Laplacian linear systems. Specifically, we studied and implemented large-degree "hub" removal in LAMG. I also studied Gremban's expansion for symmetric positive definite systems to expand signed, undirected graph Laplacian linear systems into an unsigned, undirected graph Laplacians linear system that can be used in conjunction with LAMG. I also participated in LLNL's Data Heroes program that instructs students in large data handling, machine learning, statistics and high performance computing.
