Clinical Field Work Experiences
Completed Rotations:Prenatal Genetics Supervisor: Fallon Brewer, MS CGCI worked in the Prenatal Genetics clinic at the Women and Infant Center at the University of Alabama Birmingham. In this clinic, I gained experience counseling patients with a wide variety of prenatal indications. Cancer Genetics Supervisor: Krysten Shipley MS, CGCI completed a rotation in cancer genetics at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa. Here I saw and counseled individuals and families about their risks for hereditary cancer, including patients with and at risk for HBOC and Lynch Syndrome. Cancer GeneticsSupervisor: Sara Pirzadeh-MillerI completed my second cancer rotation at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center's Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center in Dallas, Texas. Through clinics at UT Southwestern, as well as Parkland Hospital, Moncrief Cancer Center, John Peter Smith Hospital, and other affiliated clinics in the Dallas/Forth Worth Area, I am gaining experience working with a variety of populations and in a multitude of settings, identifying and communicating hereditary cancer risks to patients. Adult and Specialty GeneticsSupervisor: Ashley Cannon PhD, MS, CGCI completed a rotation in Adult and Specialty Genetics working in clinics at Children's of Alabama, UAB Hospital, and the Kirkland Clinic. Working with multiple different counselors and geneticists, I gained experience in a variety of clinical settings, including multidisciplinary clinics, general adult genetic counseling, and Neurofibromatosis clinic.Pediatric GeneticsSupervisor: Aimee Brown Jennings MS, CGCI completed a rotation in Pediatric Genetics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In my rotation, I attended and counseled in clinics at Children's of Alabama. In my time working with multiple genetic counselors and geneticists, I gained experience with counseling patients with a variety of indications and conditions.
